In our experience, classic Massey tractors are good at clapping out at inconvenient times when the fuel tap filter has either become blocked or fallen off!
If the tractor starts hunting, epically at idle, it is generally a sure sign that there is a fuel issue.
You can remove the flexi pipe from the fuel tap to the fuel lift pump, anything less than a steady flow of fuel and it is recommended that you remove the tap and replace. A bit of PTFE tape around the threads will stop it leaking on refitment.
Years of being filled with cans and funnels often mean that the fuel tanks are full of old leaves, grass and dead moths! The filter in the tank is often forgotten about and it has potential to spoil a road rally!
